Nathalie on Making the Best of Things

I was washing dishes over the weekend... and thinking aloud (Something I tend to do frequently). It occurred to me that I spend approximately one hour per day washing dishes. That equates to 7 hours a week and 365 hours a year wasted washing dishes.

Yes, I do use the dishwasher. But my family eats so much that even rinsing and loading into the dishwasher is time consuming. Plus there are the pots and pans and various silverware that can't be placed in the dishwasher.

There has to be a more efficient way to do this!

Maybe I could try to place all the silverware in the dishwasher? Or rearrange the dishes to create more room for even more dishes!

My mother, overhearing my conversation, told me that she actually washes each dish by hand and finds dishwashing relaxing.

Relaxing? How could such a dreaded chore be considered relaxing? How did my mom have a completely different idea of this?

Maybe I was so caught up in the negative aspects of dishwashing that I was blind to the positive aspects? Or because of the self-fulfilling prophecy - since I believed dishwashing was a chore, it ended up being a chore?

Maybe there is a correlation between the possibility of enjoying dishwashing and enjoying other "have tos" in life. For example, if we dislike a job and have to stick with it, perhaps we should at least find aspects of the job that we like or else we will never be happy with the job.

Make the best of things... even if it's just dishwashing

I went to SD and LA over the weekend. I miss San Diego!! I miss the bright, sunny weather and the big, beautiful beaches!

Brendan and I went to Legoland on Friday. I was a Lego Fanatic as a child and have always wanted to go to Legoland. Ahhh so I have fulfilled my lifelong dream...

I love Legoland! Everyone should go to Legoland!

I went to Mt. Soledad and Black's Beach for the first time. I can't believe I lived in SD for 2 years and never visited these places! They are so beautiful!

Then we went to LA to pre-party at Maiko's appartment and then clubbing at Highlands. It felt like college all over again...
